My review:
Wow.
This book, like all the other Wired books, is absolutely amazing. It is an emotional roller coaster of a book. Sophie’s latest case takes her to a kipuka, a small “island” in lava, on the verge of an eruption. The danger is very real, from both the “bad guys” and from nature itself. This book contains some of the most intense chapters of any book I’ve read in a long time. Ms Neal brings us through a vast range of emotions, sometimes in quick succession.
We gets some nice catching up with beloved characters (and not so beloved) in this book, and that is always nice. However, if this is your first Wired book (and if so, whyyy??) you shouldn’t feel lost or confused. There is enough information to know who each person is easily. But if you’ve read this series from the beginning, and the series that originated Sophie’s character, you will love these appearances. I love how with each book Sophie grows personally in some way, but we get new layers to several characters in this book.
There is a reason why Toby Neal is my favorite author, and I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series.
