AN ALL-NEW STANDALONE FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR JULIA KENT

I’m not too proud to admit that finding Mr. Right involves swiping right. Right? Welcome to dating in avocado toastland.

Here I am, on my first blind date, ever, courtesy of a smartphone app and my two annoying best friends.

So what is Chris “Fletch” Fletcher doing, walking across the room, looking at his phone like he’s pattern matching a picture to find a real person he’s never met before?

Oh.

Oh, no.

The guy I drop-kicked in seventh grade cannot be my blind date. The guy who earned me this infernal nickname.

That’s right.

Feisty.

More from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent as Fiona “Feisty” Gaskill gets her chance at love – drop-kick included.

My review:

First of all, ignore that blurb. Seriously, that scene is so misleading and such a minuscule part of the story it’s ridiculous.

Fiona is a preschool teacher, and a violent event thrusts her unwillingly into the spotlight. (As an aside, my oldest daughter is a preschool teacher and I was a wreck at the end of chapter two.) Fletch has been in the peripheral of Fiona’s circle since they were kids in school together, but she’s hated him since they were 12 and he bestowed the nickname Feisty upon her. Now a paramedic, he responds to the incident and helps care for Fiona.

Life keeps throwing them together, and Fiona starts to wonder why she puts so much energy into hating him.

This was a really fun book to read, and now I really wish I had been able to read Fluffy and Perky (but this is still a standalone, no worries there). These characters are so freaking FUN! Fiona, Perky (nickname for Persephone), and Mallory (from Fluffy) are best friends and have an amazing, supportive relationship. Their friendship was honestly the best part of the book for me. Fletch and Fiona made a great couple, though, once they stopped fighting. And the cabin trip had me cracking up!

Definitely get this book. I am going to go back and read the previous two and already can’t wait for the next book to be released.

“Fletch,” I start, walking into my office, waving him on. As we pass by the children, they snicker and whisper, the girls more stirred up than the boys. We reach the
office, I close the door, and ask, “Why are you here?”
“I came to see you because I knew this was your lunch break and you’ve been ignoring my texts and calls.”
“Maybe I need some space.”
“I respect that.”
“Clearly, you don’t.”
“Look, Fiona, I’m not here to argue with you. Or to crowd you or upset you. The
opposite, actually. I realized our wires have been crossed and it was better to
just come to you, face to face, and say what needs to be said.”
“You couldn’t wait until I wasn’t working?”
“If you’d answer my texts and calls, I could.”
“Fair enough. What do you want to say? What needs to be said?”
“I would like to ask you out on a date.”
“A date?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I like you.”
“That’s it?”
“Isn’t that enough?”
“After seventeen years of teasing me, of that stupid nickname following me around like a poltergeist, now you suddenly decide that because I saved your nephew you
want to date me?”
“It’s not like that.”
“Then what is it like?”
“I don’t know. Let me find out what it’s like by spending time with you. Let’s both find
out what the other is really like. Do we have to define this? Let’s explore it.” He grins. “Let’s explore each other.”
“I think you’re trauma bonding with me and getting that confused with having feelings
for me.”
“Trauma bonding?”
“We went through something emotionally intense together. You helped me. I saved your nephew. But that doesn’t mean we should date.”
“That’s not why I’m asking you out.”
“Is it because we kissed?”
“That’s not why, but it certainly adds to all the reasons why.”

Love According To Science by Claire Kingsley

Title: Love According to Science
Series: Dirty Martini Running Club
Author: Claire Kingsley
Genre: Steamy Romantic Comedy
Release Date: January 23, 2020

“I would give this book ALL THE STARS if I could. Five is not nearly enough. This is such a clever, fresh take on finding your soul-mate.” ~ Read Me Romance Blog

“Take necessary precautions: two nerdy scientists are about to light up your ereader and leave you with a hot flash!” ~ Marika Ray, author of MomCom

“There was just something about these two that clicked and made my inner nerd squeal. And can I just applaud Kingsley on writing this story? The amount of research alone that she had to have done. Wowza.” ~ Amity Book Blog

“Corban is adorable. Disheveled, distracted, caring, full of animal facts, a BOSS in bed, and secretly jacked- what more could you want?” ~ Romance Reviewed

For psychology researcher Hazel Kiegen, science holds all the answers. Her decision to swear off dating? Totally backed by her own calculations. Just don’t ask about her missing orgasms. She hasn’t been able to science her way out of that little conundrum.

But her biggest problem? Corban Nash. He’s frustrating. Infuriating. And deliciously adorable, but that’s neither here nor there. He claims to have cracked the code to falling in love, and Hazel is determined to prove him wrong.

Corban Nash created the theory of accelerated intimacy after numerous successful tests on his friends and family. Every couple who used his questionnaire fell in love, until Corban found himself the last single guy in his social circle, and a groomsman in dozens of weddings.

The only problem is, it’s never worked on him. And science hasn’t explained why.

Despite being the lone aberrant data point, Corban believes in his research, and with his new job, he’ll have the resources to prove it. Verifying his theory right under the nose of his nemesis, Hazel Kiegen? Even better.

There isn’t a theory in existence that will make Hazel fall in love with Corban. Not even with his sexy half-smile and temptingly muscular body. But from the moment these two rivals meet, sparks fly. And when they put his questionnaire to the test, the results aren’t what either of them expect.

My review:

This book…

It’s amazing.

Hazel and Corban are both brilliant and scientific. She is a college professor and researcher. But they are online nemeses. Of course Corban is hired at the college also to continue his research, and they are forced to work together.

There is so much I love about this book. The dialogue is on fire. The tension between the two is blazing. You know what they say about the thin line between love and hate… My favorite parts were rage yoga, fist unicorns, the friendship between Hazel, Everly, Nora, and Sophie, the entirety of the half marathon but especially the finish line. And penguins. And Satan (you’ll know when you read it).

You all really need to read this book. It’s hot and sweet and hilarious and girl-power inspiring and just everything.

Must Love Forever_ebook

Bianca

Handsome husband—check.
Beautiful house—check.
Wonderful life…I could never put a check next to this.
Through it all, I longed for a different life. With a man I had called my best friend. A man who is not my husband.
When the unspeakable happens and I’m left alone, its Mick who is there to pick me up.

Mick

Not everything is meant to be.
Watching the woman who owned my heart start a life with someone else – broke me to the core.

But time goes on and I try too.
Until one phone call changes both our lives.
She could have been taken from me forever.
Instead, a tragic accident takes away the only man I thought ever made her happy.

When she starts over again, in my city, in my home; sharing slivers of her story with me it’s then that I learn not everything is as it appears.
None of this matters though, when I’ve been given a second chance to prove we’re meant to be.

After all, 425 Madison is the perfect place to fall in love.

My review:

Bianca and Mick grew up together, going from the “ew, cooties” stage to best friends as they got older. Unfortunately, Mick realized he was in love with Bianca right before she married her high school and college boyfriend. After the wedding, Bianca and Mick lost touch. Then suddenly his sister calls to tell him Bianca was in an accident and is in the hospital and he rushes to her side.

Their story is one of a deep shared history, and a lifelong bond. Bianca trusts Mick with her life, and that gives her the strength to do what she needs to heal after her trauma. These two together were the absolute sweetest. This was a great read and fits in well with the rest of the425 Madison series.

Excerpt

Copyright @ Liegh Lennon 2020
I’m asleep, or at least I’m faking sleep very well when the door creaks open. Her footsteps move closer and closer, coming around the foot of the bed, pulling the covers back. The second she does, I roll over, bringing her in close to me. But tonight, I don’t care about the beast of my erection poking into her backside. Does she not know what she does to me? We never speak in bed. We never speak of her sleeping with me. And I’m not sure if I should break our protocol to tell her how much I want her. It goes deeper—she’s shattered, and I don’t know how to fix her, but I desperately want to.
I come as close to the olive complexion of her back as I can get, and she doesn’t wiggle out of the touch of my erection. The little tease backs her ass closer into it, and it makes me inhale long and deep, exhaling on the back of her neck. She relaxes farther into me, and I can’t resist her, not for a second longer.
I pepper kisses onto her neck, as her hand snakes back over her hip to my cock. The second her fingers make contact with it, though it’s covered by my boxers, my kisses speed up, my own fingers dipping into her low cut tank top. The same whimper she emitted earlier has returned and I push her to her back, bracing myself over her. I should say something, ask her what she wants. When our eyes connect, and we can see each other by the moonlight streaming in, she takes her finger, covering my lips, telling me there will be no talking. With a nod of her head, it’s her way of telling me this is what she wants, and I lower my face to hers, taking control of her mouth.
Her tongue scrapes at my teeth, and she playfully bites the lower part of my lip. Oh, shit, this is sexy as hell. My hands are pushing me up, as to not squish her tiny body. In one fluid motion, I roll over, bringing her with me, her body resting on mine. She’s so light, she won’t hurt me. My arms are wrapped around her, but I can’t resist exploring her whole body. My hands come to rest on her ass when I sneak my fingers between her skin and skimpy shorts.

Squeezing her pert ass, causes my erection to continue to barrel into her body. Scooting to her side, still on me, she pulls my cock through my boxers. I emit another harsh departure of air, only to suck it in again when her hand wraps around my cock, stroking it from the base to the tip.

I intend on telling her what she’s doing is right—what this is with us is perfect, but I can’t. It’s not what we do, not in the confines of my bed.

When she moves her body from mine, I miss her warmth but I don’t have to wait long when the tip of her tongue starts to suck up the precum of my cock. Her tongue connects with me, and my body relaxes into what this is, because it’s Bia and the two of us together are unstoppable.

Blog Tour: Getting Off Easy by Erin Nicholas

Getting Off Easy, an all-new
sexy, single parent romantic comedy from
New York Times bestselling author Erin Nicholas is available now!

GettingOffEasy300.jpg

New Orleans firefighter, James Reynaud’s true love is hanging out in the jazz clubs on Frenchmen Street and playing piano with some of the best musicians in the city. But driving his cute, bookworm neighbor Harper Broussard crazy is right up there on his list of favorite things.

The buttoned-up linguistics professor across the hall is a little older, a lot smarter, and way too good for him. And she knows it. But wow is she beautiful when she blushes.

She’s equally gorgeous when she’s saving his butt. Because now things just got serious. A baby has been, literally, dropped off on his doorstep and to say he’s in over his head is an understatement. Not that Harper knows anything about babies either. But at least they now have something in common.

Excerpt:

Harper reached out to lift the baby off of James, but just as her hand touched his back, James stirred.
She froze.
“Professor?”
His voice was husky from sleep, low and gravelly, and Harper’s belly flipped, heat sliding from her stomach lower, between her legs. They were in his bedroom. One of them was in bed. And that voice. And the nickname. She could hardly be blamed for her reaction.
“Hey,” she said softly.
“You okay?”
It was the middle of the night, and he was the one asleep with the thing that had just turned his life upside down, but he was asking about her? She never came to him with needs. He came to her. She nodded. “I thought I’d take him so you could get more comfortable.”
He looked down at the baby, and seemingly instinctively, his hand slid from the baby’s butt to his back. James’s hand was huge on the tiny baby, and Harper swallowed hard at the sweet picture. “He’s okay.”

“You sure? I don’t mind.”
He looked up at her. He was clearly still sleepy, maybe not fully awake. “You wanna help?” he asked.
She nodded. “Yeah.” She felt terrible for leaving earlier. It had gone against every instinct except the one that screamed at her to protect her heart no matter the cost. But she was afraid she was far past the point of that being possible.
“Then come here.”
Harper wet her lips. “Come… there?”
“Yeah.” He reached for her with his free hand and caught her around the wrist, tugging her forward.  She could have easily pulled back, broken free, resisted. But she let him urge her onto the mattress.
Harper knelt with a knee next to his hip. “How does this help?”
“Gets you up against me,” he said, his voice still sleep roughened.
Her heart skittered. “That’s helpful?”
“Can’t imagine how it will hurt.” He gave her a sleepy, but still devastatingly sexy smile. “This way you’re here if he does need something.”
Well, he had a point.
Harper stretched out on the mattress beside James. He put his arm up above his head again, not holding her, but definitely exposing plenty of surface area for her to be up against
Oh, what the hell. She wouldn’t sleep well at her place now, wondering what was going on over here. This way she was very much here for whatever went on. And she’d wanted to be up against him for a few months now. Lord only knew what the next few days were going to bring with the baby and everything. She might as well enjoy this moment while she had it.

She scooted closer. His body was hot and hard. She swallowed with some difficulty.
Then the baby made a little grunting sound and curled and stretched against James.
This was so not how she’d ever pictured being in bed with James Reynaud. That was for sure.

Almost Perfect by Claudia Burgoa

Almost Perfect
Author: Claudia Burgoa
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Romantic Comedy
Release Date: January 16, 2020

AlmostPerfect FOR WEB

BLURB

USA TODAY bestselling author Claudia Burgoa brings readers a delightful new romantic comedy that’s equal parts hilarious and sexy about friendship and learning how to fall in love!

Olympic medalist and X-game sensation Alex Spearman thinks he’s perfect.

He’s not. I know his kind.

Rich, famous, and emotionally unavailable.

Well…He’s perfect enough to hook up with on the weekend of his sister’s wedding.

His sister is my best friend. This is a disaster in the making.

Did I mention he’s also hot, sexy and funny?

How can I resist?

After a steamy weekend, I agree. We have chemistry.

But it just won’t work out in the long run.

He’s just a fond memory. That is…until he moves next door.

When I’m in need, the almost perfect man offers to help.

On a “friends-only” basis.

“Just friends,” he said. Yeah, right.

Suddenly, Alex is getting too close for comfort.

Things are becoming heated … becoming too real for me.

Is this the real deal or am I another medal to him?

My review:

Holy hell, how did I miss in previous books that June’s best friend Hannah is Hannah Hades??

Anyway – Hannah and Alex.

(Side note: All of this author’s books take place in the same universe, so there is a lot of character overlap and “cameos” but the books are standalones outside the duets, which are labeled as duets so no surprise cliffhangers.)

Hannah is having a crisis. A lot of big things have hit her life and the latest one is the last straw. She needs a break to deal with herself and get her mental state, and life, back in order. She has been involved in a non-relationship with Alex, her best friend’s brother, for a couple years but they argue just as much as they sleep together and she has realized that’s not healthy. He wants to keep in contact, so she instructs him to communicate by written letter, expecting him to never follow through.

Alex has already survived a career-ending accident that completely changed the course of his life, and is even walking again after spending time as a paraplegic. He lets everyone believe his reputation of a partying playboy is accurate, even his family, because it’s easier than catching feelings. But he has discovered he has real feelings for Hannah. Their yearlong letter exchange adds a new layer to their relationship, one neither of them expected.

This book was amazing. We are introduced to the members of Hannah’s former band, the Sinners of Seattle, and I’m looking forward to reading their stories in the future. The depth of Alex and Hannah’s relationship is beautiful and I really  love them together. There is so much about this book, but I don’t want to get spoilery.

EXCERPT

“Harry Potter geek?”

She nods. “Dad and I used to read the books when I was young. It’s our thing, you know?
We share our love for mythical creatures and magical worlds.”
She smiles widely. “When I was at my mother’s, I used to read the books by myself and
wished I was at Dad’s instead.”
“So now you get to wear a unicorn necklace and look like a fairy?”
Suddenly, I see darkness pushing her bright face. She grabs the handle and starts closing the door. “Thank you again for everything.”
“I’m supposed to stay with you and binge watch a series or just watch a rom-com,” I say,
showing her my arm where I scribbled my notes.
Her expression smooths, and her lips slip into a charming grin. Her mouth is framed by a
pair of inviting dimples that enchant me.
“So tell me about this first day,” I ask. “We could share some of the chocolate chip cookies I got you.”
She steps aside, inviting me in. “First experiences suck most of the time.”
“First kisses never suck,” I tell her.
“Of course they do,” she protests with conviction.
I brush a strand of her hair, leaning forward. “There’s always that little moment of
hesitation. When everything is almost happening. Like, right when you’re about to touch her lips,” I say, my lips are so close to hers. “You wait though.”
“What do you wait for?” she asks with sweetness and innocence.
“For her to step back or lean into the kiss.”
“What if she doesn’t move?”
“That’s my favorite,” I answer before I brush her soft lips with mine.

She gasps as I dip my mouth to hers. This is pretty much like going down the slope at high speed. I can’t stop, I can’t hesitate. One wrong move and it’s a bust. I have to control every movement, lead her. Lean where I want us to go. I slide my tongue across her lips, and she opens them while she wraps her arms around my neck.
I don’t rush it though. If this is the only kiss I get from Hannah, I want it to be perfect. My
heart hammers as our kiss leads to more than just demonstrating to her that a first can be extraordinary.
The small whimper she makes as I slide my hand around her waist and pull her into me gets me worked up. I hold nothing back, and she doesn’t either. I move my lips to her jawline, nibbling her soft skin all the way to her earlobe.
She tastes sweet. Like lavender, vanilla, and honey. I could eat her. Nibble every inch of her skin, drink her all.
As she pushes her hips up against me, trying to get closer, my eyes open. Our gazes connect.
I want to consume her. All of her. The pain from climbing the tree is gone, replaced by desire—a hunger I’ve never come across before.
I run a hand through the back of her neck, my fingers curl around her skull, gripping her
head tightly.
“Waiting?” she asks between shallow breaths.
I nod. “You’re in charge, do you want me to continue?”
She rises on her tiptoes, leaning closer. This time, I devour her. Our tongues tangle and fuck if the fire isn’t consuming us.

Lust and adrenaline rush through my veins. I run a hand up and down her round, tight ass. My length is turning into a piece of steel. Throbbing, needy steel that wants to slide inside her. A sexy moan escapes her lips as I move between her thighs and push her against the door. Her legs wrap around my hips, and anything besides fucking her is off the table. There’s no restraint. For her, or for myself.
I break the kiss, gasping for some air. “Are you sure about this?”
“I have this theory,” she says. “Being with a guy for the first time being awkward and meh. Do you want to prove me wrong?”
“Challenge accepted.”

The Blind Date Diaries by Brenda St John Brown Review + Giveaway

Title: The Blind Date Diaries
Author: Brenda St John Brown
Genre: Romantic Comedy

Release Date: January 15, 2020

Blurb
Dating?
Lower than a bikini wax on my list of priorities.
Blind dating? Let’s just say I’d rather have a Brazilian – and not the
hot soccer-player variety.
So the fact I’ve agreed to do a blind-date feature for Pink, the magazine I
work for, and write it all up Bridget Jones style means one thing – Pink is
in dire straits and this is my best shot at saving my job.
Make that my only shot because date number one is with Jack Reese – the son of the publisher of Pink – and he dislikes me as much as I dislike him.
Or at least I thought he did.

My Review:

I adored this book and I was so sad that it ended! Jack and Angeline were enchanting. I really liked both characters a lot. I admit, in the first chapter I didn’t think Jack was the love interest, and disliked him a lot, but then I read more and loved him. Angeline was a fabulous character as well. The blind date trials were so entertaining, and Jack and her brothers showing up at her different dates was hilarious. Their relationship progression was great. They both had to learn how to communicate with each other and not fall into their old pattern of arguing constantly.

This was another fantastic book from this author.

“Ang is going to be Pink’s own Bachelorette?” Erin’s tone is snarky, and I dig my fingernails into my palm to keep myself from snapping back at her. Just because I’m curvy doesn’t mean I couldn’t be a Bachelorette.
“Without the roses. Because that’s dumb, man. I don’t care what anyone says,” says Patrick, with an exaggerated eye roll.
Everyone laughs and I shoot Patrick a grateful look. I owe him big time for jumping on board with this and keeping any doubts he’s had to himself. “The introductory spread is going in the print edition, we’ve got banner ads for the website, and Patrick’s also put together a set of social media banners. We’ll need to really build buzz about this before we run the first blind date story next week.”
“What if no one responds?” asks Mike. “You’re relying on nominations, right? What if there aren’t any?”
“Oh, come on. As if.” Melissa side-eyes Mike and everyone laughs.
I laugh, too, but the truth is, Mike just hit on my biggest fear related to this whole thing. Not the dates themselves because if I can get through lunch with my boss, I can get through a blind date. But what if no one wants to participate? What if no one wants to go out with me?
And I know it’s not about me at all in the broad scheme of things. But in the details, it is. I’m the datee in this thing and I’m no Helen of Troy. I mean, I’m not ugly, just…average. Average height. Average looks. On the plus side, I have great cheekbones. On the minus side, I’m carrying at least twenty extra pounds because I don’t exercise enough. My other older brother, Will, always says I have the body of a supermodel hidden in me somewhere, but Will’s a personal trainer and he gets paid to say things like that.
Erin’s voice snaps me out of my reverie. “We need a plant.”
“A plant?” A shrub, maybe a rhododendron? “For what?”
“Not that kind. I mean a pre-determined winner for date one,” says Erin. “So in case no one comes forward, we can fudge it and have someone to kick this off.”
Before I can respond, a voice rings out from the back of the room and all heads turn towards Jack Reese, who’s somehow slipped in the back when no one was watching. “I’ll do it.”
My heart leaps to my throat. Jack’s gaze is cool and detached, although his eyes rake over me like he’s picturing my gray skirt pushed up around my waist and now I can’t help imagining that, too. I glance down at my fingers twisting the pen in my hand and when I glance back up at Jack, I see a trace of a smirk on his lips. Like
he knows he’s had an effect on me and he’s ticking off some mental scorecard.
“Uh, yeah?” My words are no better than a stutter. “I mean, that could work, right?”
“Unless you have a better suggestion?” Erin’s tone makes it clear what she thinks the likelihood of this is.
All eyes turn towards me. I could admit right now that the whole Jack thing has already been arranged, but it occurs to me that it probably looks better for Jack to offer, so I say, “Nope. Jack, that makes you bachelor number one. As long as you’re up for it?”
“Oh, I’m up for it.” Jack wriggles his eyebrows and Erin giggles.

Piper and Derek are in for just a little more – after all, 425 Madison is the perfect place to fall in love!

My review:

Piper and Derek are in a new relationship. They are happy, but still in the getting-to-know-each-other-as-a-couple stage. They can see themselves falling in love, but it’s still new. Then they get a big surprise and suddenly things get a lot more real for them.
I really, really liked these two together. They were minor characters in Just Swipe Right and it was fun getting a little update on the characters from that story (Piper’s sister and Derek’s best friend). I was also pleasantly surprised by Sara, who we also met in Season One of 425 Madison. Her character progression took me by surprise and I hope she gets a book. But back to Derek and Piper. What a great match they are! They are the sweetest couple and I love how supportive he is of her, always.
Read this book. And then keep reading each 425 Madison book as they are released. This is a fun series. Season One was great and I’m looking forward to reading each book in Season Two.

“It’s going to be okay,” he finally speaks just as we step out into the crisp morning air.
“If you say so.” I realize how terrible I sound and sigh. “I’m sure it’s nothing, so it’ll all be okay.”
“Even if it’s not nothing.” Derek stops us in the middle of the sidewalk and makes me look at him. I nod and he kisses my forehead before we
start walking again, still hand in hand. A quiet solidarity for what’s about to unfold. I feel like, at this point, we both know how this is turning out,
but I hope like hell that I’m wrong. My brain fills with fog and I walk along with him in a daze. I decide that all the what ifs don’t matter until
things are for sure, so I push it all out of my mind. I might be pregnant, and it is definitely Derek’s. I can handle anything no matter what comes
my way. I was raised with that thinking, as was Eliza. No matter what life throws at us, we can handle it. If it’s possible to ramble in your inner monologue, I do it, for the entire block to the drug store. Inside I purchase a set of two tests to be safe and the woman gives us a smile that is either pitying or happy, I can’t tell. Derek keeps his hand in mine until we are standing back in front of my apartment door. When he lets me go, I feel a little hollow. I grasp the drug store bag in both hands.
“Do you want me to go with you?” He doesn’t meet my eyes.
“To pee?” I ask, cracking a smile. Maybe it’s not a good time to laugh, but I do.
“I mean inside. I’m not going with you to pee.” Derek finally smiles too.
“Actually, I think I need a minute alone,” I admit.
“I’ll wait in the living room,” he agrees.
“Okay.”
“Okay.” He wraps his arms around me, crushing me to his chest, and kisses the top of my head. “You do what you need to do and yell when you need me.” Derek nods matter-of-factly and kisses me. “I… you know how much I care about you, right?”
“Me too.” I know our conversation makes no sense, but it’s what we have right now.

New York Times

Caroline

Becoming a teen mom at eighteen was not what I expected, but then again, neither was being a single parent. Still, I wouldn’t change my past because that boy is my world.
Hockey is the only thing my son seems to care about, so I work two jobs to make sure he can play. I’d do anything to make sure he doesn’t suffer because of the bad decisions his father made.
When he won a whole summer of hockey training, I knew in my heart he was going to have an amazing time.
What I wasn’t prepared for was meeting his new summer coach.
He was magnetic, powerful, and a player—in all forms of the word.
If my life had taught me anything up to this point, it was how to avoid making bad decisions, and Justin Stone was the definition of a bad decision.
I could never be a woman his family approved of. Even if I wished I could be.

Justin

Growing up as the son of a hockey God is one thing. Growing up as the brother of a second hockey God is another. I had big skates to fill, so it was a good thing I loved every second of it.
Summer was my off time, my time to let loose, but when they ask me to coach a hockey camp for underprivileged kids, I couldn’t say no.
But when she walked in holding a little boy’s hand, my heart stopped beating. Or maybe it started for the first time.
They were a package deal, and I knew this—wanted it more than I’ve ever wanted anything. It didn’t take long to realize that no matter what happened, I would do anything to protect them.
She is the only one I want to be with.
When push comes to shove, I have to prove to everyone that this is my choice, and This is
Forever.

My review:

Caroline and Justin come from two different worlds. Caroline was a single mother to 8 year old Dylan, pregnant at 17 and divorced from his drug addict father. Justin is the son of a hockey star, brother to another, and brother in law to still more hockey stars. His family is large and loud and loving. He is drawn to Caroline and Dylan the first day of hockey camp. But he has to convince Caroline to lower her fortress walls and let him in a little. Gaining and keeping her fragile trust won’t be an easy thing.

I enjoyed this book so much. Dylan is an amazing kid and the real star of this story. Okay not really, but he could be. Justin’s relationship with Dylan is beautiful, and Caroline is a supermom. No matter what struggles she is facing, she doesn’t let Dylan suffer. Justin’s family is fantastic, and I love how they embraced Caroline and Dylan.

This is a wonderful story of the forming of a family despite all the obstacles in the way. Justin may be a famous hockey player with plenty of money, but that doesn’t make him immune to problems, or keep the people he loves from experiencing hardship, no matter how much he tries. You should definitely read this page turner.

BLURB

Blake Carson can’t afford to have a life. Between working full-time as a tattoo artist and caring for his disabled twin brother Jacob, his plate is more than full – and he prefers it that way.

But his meticulous planning is turned on its head when he meets the upbeat and beautiful Audrey Wright and her butterfly tattoo.

Now, through a complicated maze of coincidence and fate, Blake begins to question if maybe there could be more to his life than just work and Jacob.

That is, if the guilt doesn’t eat him alive first.

With the help of Dr. Vanessa Travetti and a girl he doesn’t think he deserves, can Blake convince himself that even the bad guy deserves a happy ending?

My review:

Wow.

That was my first thought when I finished this book.

It is not your run of the mill romance novel, not even close.

Blake is an angry at the world tattoo artist, who has taken on the care of his disabled twin brother, who has been mentally a preschooler since an accident when the boys were 10. He has blamed himself for his brother’s injury since it happened, and as a result refuses to really live for himself.

Audrey comes to see Blake for a tattoo. He dismisses her until his boss forces him to do the tattoo, and he gets an unexpected lesson from her on making snap judgments of people.

I could go on and on about this book, but would definitely get into spoiler territory too quickly. So here’s a brief list of what I enjoyed:
*Blake is openly in therapy, and I loved the honest, realistic exchanges with his therapist
*Lots of metaphysical and theological discussion
*Jake!
*How Audrey interacts with both Blake and Jake, and teaches Blake so very much
*Audrey’s family giving Blake the family experience he missed out on

This is a powerful, beautiful book of learning to love yourself so you can love others, of hope and healing on many levels. I am not remotely a crier and this book had me tearing up in parts. And it was so fun to get the little glimpse of Chad and his bandmates from Forget the Stars but if you haven’t read that (and you totally should) it won’t affect your enjoyment of this story in the slightest, just knowing who they are is an extra treat.

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

EXCERPT

“Hey, Blake,” Audrey answered, a smile in her voice.

“Hey.”

“This is the second time you’ve called me in three days.”

“You’re keeping count?”

She scoffed lightheartedly. “Duh. I mean, I might be a grown woman, but deep down, I’m still a girl who has it pretty bad for this really hot guy.”
