My review:

The Paperback Writers anthology is a baker’s dozen of short stories all written by different authors, and all inspired by a Beatles song. Each story is different – there is romance, supernatural, fantasy, historical fiction, most anything you could want.

This is the perfect book to work on when you don’t have a big chunk of time – each short story stands alone so you can just read one or two at a time or devour the entire book. The story titles are the titles of the songs that inspired them. It’s also a great way to discover new to you authors!

This is a fantastic collection of short fiction from a talented group of authors.

Opposites don’t merely attract. . .they combust.

Take Me Down, an all-new, sexy contemporary standalone from Wall Street Journal and New York Times bestselling author Carly Phillips, is available now!

Parker Knight was going through the motions… and then he met her.

Parker Knight lived and lost his dream. Now he works for his family’s business, wearing a suit and pretending to be happy. A weekend away to plan a corporate retreat turns into a revelation when he lays eyes on Emily Stevens, the sexy owner of a small inn that’s seen better days. One look at Emily and the run down bed and breakfast and suddenly Parker has a purpose. He turns his short stay into a longer one, intending to act on the intense chemistry and desire that runs hot between them. While there, he plans to give Emily and her father’s inn a much needed infusion of cash and manpower.

Coming off an emotionally abusive marriage, Emily has an immediate bias against suave, city guys … But despite the slick exterior, Emily discovers Parker is sweet, charming and eager to help. And when she caves to their incredible passion, she discovers he makes her feel just as good in bed as out. Yet no matter how hot they burn or how well they mesh, Parker’s time with her has an expiration date. And Emily has an ex who refuses to accept that their relationship is over.

Parker isn’t a man who gives up. Sweet, sexy Emily Stevens is his chance to reclaim his life. He wants to take care of this woman who makes him feel … everything. If only he could figure out how to merge his two lives, everything would be perfect. But when her ex makes his move, Parker realizes what’s important. He only hopes he isn’t too late.

My review:

Emily has a lot going on. She had several life traumas happen all at the same time, and now she’s back home helping her dad with the bed and breakfast that was her mother’s dream, putting her own dream on hold and trying to convince her dad to unload the B&B and move to Florida to live with her sister. Parker is living his life, but not really happy with it. He is simply existing. He lost a lot at a pretty young age and is still affected by his losses. He and Emily are drawn to each other, despite her reservations and the fact that he lives across the country.

I loved how Parker helped Emily to deal with her grief and take care of herself. She takes care of everything else and needed that reminder. I also liked the way he helped her understand her father better and see him how he is instead of through her fears. These two had insane chemistry, too. This was an entertaining, easy to read book.

Vow of Sacrifice by Emma Renshaw

Title: Vow of Sacrifice
Series: Vow Series #5
Author: Emma Renshaw
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: June 11, 2019

She fled from the depths of hell, her life barely in tact.
Iris is finally living a peaceful life away from all that she fears. She’s ready to come out of hiding and start living again.
He walked away from a life no one is supposed to escape.
Callan’s been looking over his shoulder for the past two years. There’s a reason they say the mafia is for life. Now, in a new city, and as the guardian of his sister, he has the chance to create a life he can be proud of.
Iris’s world is rocked off its axis when she meets her new neighbor with turquoise eyes and a protective streak a mile wide. Soon the chemistry between them sparks to life and it’s not long before passion consumes them. But their pasts are never too far away…
When those he loves the most are threatened, will the cost of his sacrifice be his own life?

My review:

Iris has escaped an abusive marriage and after two years with no contact from her ex she has moved back to Texas. She is next door to Callan and his sister, whom he has custody of, and they share a mutual friend in their neighbor Carmen, who takes each of them under her wing. At first they clash, but then a relationship develops between them and it’s beautiful. Iris is a great companion to Callan’s sister. Callan is patient with Iris, letting her move things forward between them on her terms as she’s comfortable. She blends seamlessly into his friends group as well.

I do wish we had more of Callan’s backstory. I was able to piece together a little of it but we never are really told much about his past. We definitely know more about Iris’s history.

Overall this was a really good book. There was a bit of suspense that kept things interesting and the characters on their toes. But not so much that it became over the top.
