Heart Throb by Magan Vernon

Title: HeartThrob
Series: Heart Duet #1
Author: Magan Vernon
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: March 25, 2019
Blurb
He was just another dad at my daughter’s school.
Another very hot, former teen heartthrob dad.
One I couldn’t get involved with.
Lennox Reign was the hottest teen star over fifteen years ago. Now,
he’s staring me daggers across the principal’s office.
Not my fault my daughter got in trouble the first day of school and I
seem to have ‘bad mom’ stamped on my forehead.
But now not only do I have to see Lennox and his very grown-up body now
at school drop off, but we’re working together on the school bake sale.
If he could just stop being a brooding heartbreaker for like two
seconds.
He says he wants to keep the past in the past and move forward with his
life, but the closer we get and the more I uncover, the more I can’t help
falling for the former actor.
The one who I know could easily break me.
And he will.

HeartThrob is told from the Female POV

My review:

First: Cliffhanger warning! This is book one of a two-part duet; this one is from Rachel’s point of view and part 2 is from Lennox’s point of view.
Rachel is a single mother who has moved in with her parents to save money as she rebuilds her life and business after divorce. On her daughter Ariana’s first day at a new private school, she makes friends with another girl in her class and they accidentally clog the classroom bathroom’s toilet and cause a flood resulting in a visit to the principal’s office. Rachel is surprised to see the father of the friend is Lennox Reign, former teen heartthrob and object of Rachel’s teenage crush. Despite their daughters becoming best friends, Rachel and Lennox can’t seem to get along. When they are paired together to head the school’s bake sale fundraiser, though, things start to change between them. Until a misunderstanding goes viral and changes everything.
I did enjoy this book, even though there was no resolution and a new plot twist was introduced on the last page. I know the second book is coming soon so I can be patient. Maybe.
Rachel is a great character. She’s sassy and independent and a fantastic mother. Her ex-husband was horrible but when she finally stands up to him I was cheering her on. Lennox helped her to see how the ex was treating her and that was an invaluable lesson no matter the outcome of their relationship. The girls are adorable third graders. I was also pleasantly surprised by Amy’s character. I was anticipating her to be a “Mean Girls mommy” but she ended up completely opposite of that and a good friend to Rachel.
I can’t wait to read the conclusion to this story. If part 2 is as good as part 1 we will not be disappointed.

“Well, accidents happen, Mr. Reign. You weren’t the only one
called out of work, and I’m sure the girls both learned their lesson.” I forced
a smile, hoping he’d drop the hard-ass look.
No such luck.
I glanced at the principal out of the corner of my eye, hoping she’d have something to say. But before she could even open her mouth, the guy spoke again.
“Yes, we can hope this doesn’t happen again. Make sure your daughter knows that.”
I whipped my head around. “Excuse me? You think my daughter, out of the blue, on her first day, decided ‘Hey, let’s try and unclog a toilet and flood the bathroom!’”
He smirked, the only crack in his exterior. “Never happened before with my daughter and she’s been going here since preschool.”
This guy had some nerve.
“Yeah, well, people change. Not everyone can solve kids’ problems in twenty minutes with a laugh track.” The words flew out of my lips before I could take them back.
I really needed to learn how to use a filter.
“You really just used a sitcom line?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Well, you are Lennox Reign, aren’t you? Former poster boy, even with your own milk mustache campaign? I’m sure you raised enough hell as a teen star,” I spat.
He shook his head, blowing a breath of air out of his nose as he muttered, “Un-fucking-believable.”
Finally, the principal walked around her desk, putting her hands out. “Okay, I think that’s enough. Both of your daughters have been given a warning, and we will make sure this doesn’t happen again. Okay? No need for language.”
“You’re right, Ambro. Sorry for getting out of hand,” Lennox said, offering her a smile but not even glancing in my direction.
Ass.

The Story of Home by Krista Sandor Review + Giveaway

Title: The Story of Home
Series: Langley Park #5
Author: Krista Sandor
Genre: Romantic Suspense/Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 24, 2019
Blurb
Sam Sinclair has a secret.
A secret dark enough to bring Zoe Stein to her knees.
A secret that’s kept him from being more than just her friend.
But not all secrets stay buried, especially in the town of Langley Park.
Zoe is done.
Done with Sam.
Done waiting for him to realize she’s in love with him.
Done wondering why he’s kept her at arm’s length.
Done remembering the two steamy nights they shared years ago.
Until…
Zoe gets the chance to right a wrong from her past, and Sam is the only one who can help her uncover the truth. Their passion reignites, but is their love enough to
overcome the secrets that could tear them apart?
The Story of Home is a sexy standalone romance in the Langley Park Series.

My review:

Zoe is a reporter in Washington DC who runs a story on abuse and neglect at a girls’ detention center. When her source recants and is discredited, she is fired. The same day, a tragedy sends her home to Langley Park to help her family. When she learns of similar allegations at the nearby facility owned by the same company, she takes the opportunity to make up for the past and save the girls.

I liked that there was so much more to this book than the main romance (which seems to have played a secondary role in my reading experience).  Zoe is smart and fearless, and the support her friends show is amazing. The romance part was sweet – Sam is carrying a lot of guilt and feels like he doesn’t deserve to be loved and be happy, but Zoe is able to break through that and help him heal. One thing that bugged me, though – they are in a smallish town. How is it that literally no one knew what happened to Kara?

This was a really good read. It’s a standalone in a series, and while the others are not necessary to enjoy this one, it’s nice to “catch up” with past characters. This book follows The Measure of Home, reviewed here.

Sam pressed Zoe’s back into the door, and she tilted her head to meet his kiss. Their lips came together, and she sighed, the sweet pull of desire and relief and love manifesting itself with every lick, every brush of skin on skin.
“Let’s get inside. I have all sorts of ideas about what we can do with a can of whipped cream.”
“Tell me you’ve got chocolate syrup in there, too.”
“I’ve got the biggest container they make.”
“Do you have ice cream?”
“Strawberry and chocolate,” he answered, taking her earlobe between his teeth.
“And Maraschino cherries?” she purred.
“What kind of freak do you think I am? An ice cream sundae without a cherry on top? Of course, I’ve got Maraschino cherries.”
She bit his lip. “What are you waiting for? Let’s go have the naughtiest ice cream party Langley Park’s ever seen.”

The Hardest Route, an all-new emotional and romantic standalone from A.S. Teague is available now!

the hardest route-eBook-complete.jpg

My friends used to tell me ‘What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.’ Clearly, they lied because a few months later, I found out my one-night stand was pregnant.

I couldn’t handle a baby. I was Griffin Rockwell, the best wide receiver the league had ever seen. But what choice did I have? My baby girl was coming whether I was ready for her or not.

Brooke turned out to be an amazing woman and mother. For seven years, we were the MVP’s of co-parenting—and even better friends.

That all changed when tragedy struck our makeshift family and I was faced with the terrifying possibility of losing the one woman I was quickly realizing I couldn’t live without.

I was at the height of my career and on the path to becoming the greatest of all time.

But keeping my family together, with Brooke by my side, might prove to be the hardest route of all.

Excerpt:

“I like it when you call me Griffin.” His gaze settled on my mouth, and my heart sped up. I recognized that look in his eyes. It was the exact same look he’d had before he’d kissed me in Vegas. It might have been seven years ago, but when a man looks at your lips like he wants to explore every inch of them without stopping for air, you don’t forget it.

Before I had the chance to say something smart in response, he leaned in, his large frame crowding mine.

My traitorous eyelids fluttered shut. I willed them to open, but they refused to obey.

There was less than a moment’s hesitation, and then his lips were brushing mine.

If he’d had any reservations for that split second before our mouths met, they were nowhere to be found now. His hand fisted my hair, his fingertips on my scalp eliciting a moan that came from somewhere deep within me.

When his tongue licked at the seam of my lips asking for entrance, there was no question of whether I should let him in or not. They parted, and our mouths moved in rhythm with each other’s, his lips urging and persuading my own to follow suit.

And they did.

I was lost in the smell of him wrapped around me; the earthy scent that was all Griff combined with the heady feel of his hands in my hair caused every nerve ending in my body to come alive.

I moaned again as his hands traveled down my neck, his body pressing close into mine.

There were kisses, and then there was this.

This wasn’t a kiss, but a total melting of one body into another, and for a fleeting moment, I wanted to drown in the way it felt to have this man worshipping my mouth, his hands desperate to touch more of me but content to take what he could get in a hotel lounge.

Our night together in Vegas had been electric, full of lust and desire, but this was something different entirely. This was magnetic, like we were being pulled together by some unseen force that we were both powerless to stop.

And it was that realization that caused me to pull away and gasp for a breath that I didn’t really want.

What I wanted was Griff’s mouth.

His lips on mine.

On my neck.

On my breasts.

Every fucking where.

I couldn’t pull my eyes open to face the man who was supposed to be just a friend, so I gripped the edge of the bar, my chest heaving as I asked, “What was that?”

Cover Reveal: Well Suited by Staci Hart

fb-coverreveal-banner.jpg

Well Suited, the final standalone in the Red Lipstick Coalition Series from Staci Hart, is coming May 2nd and we have the beautiful cover for you!

well-suited-illustrated-sm.jpg

Chemistry is my love language.

I’ve always been able to separate feelings from chemosignals. A shot of dopamine, a dash of serotonin, and a sprinkle of oxytocin—and bam. You’re in love.

And when egg meets sperm, you’re pregnant.

I couldn’t even be surprised as I stared down at the little blue plus sign, because I knew exactly when and how, and with whom it happened.

When: approximately five weeks ago.

Who: one night stand.

How: prophylactic malfunction.

The upside? I don’t have to go looking for a suitable mate.

Genetically, he’s the cream of the crop. His musculature is a study in symmetry and strength, his height imposing and dominant. He is a man who thrives on control and command, a man who survives on intelligence and resourcefulness. A perfect male specimen.

And the whole package is wrapped up in a flawlessly tailored suit.

I’m having this baby, and he insists we’re well-suited to have it together. And what’s worse? He wants more, in the way of love and marriage.

But love isn’t real. It’s just a product of chemistry.

And if he changes my mind about that, we’re both in trouble.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
