Today I’m reviewing another book for the A to Z Challenge Book Review Tour – A to Z Reasons Why La Yacata is the Place to Be in Any Disaster: A Prepper’s Guide to Mexico by CE Flores This book is different than most books I read. This is a fairly fast read, with 26 different chapters each describing a type of disaster and how to survive. The main idea of the book is that the rural Mexican community of La Yacata is the best place to survive any disaster, so all the chapters conclude with reasons why La Yacata fits the need.
The disasters outlined range from the common – blizzard, drought, hailstorm, wildfire – to the absurd. I highly doubt we are in danger of a zombie apocolypse or a UFO invasion. Political upheaval is responsible for a few of the chapters so some of these are plausible, too.
The book contains many good ideas for emergency preparedness, something that many families lack. Some are common sense, some are things most people don’t think of until it is too late. Many of the chapters also have brief history lessons that were interesting.
While I normally would not have read this type of book since I am not even remotely a “prepper,” I did learn of some things our family can implement to be better prepared for emergencies that could happen in our area. And while it is not feasible for everyone to travel to La Yacata to survive an apocalyptic scenario (especially since a larger population would destroy most of the reasons why it is a good place to survive a disaster), the book does give insight as to what types of environments are potentially safer than others if someone was worried about that sort of thing.

Where did the idea for this book come from, other than the alphabet and the challenge?
Mexico is a hard country to live in. These are common disasters that a little preparation might be in order.
How is this book different from others in your genre?
Thank you for asking! While it shares some similarities with other Prepping books, my book is focused on common disasters or events that could happen in Mexico, which aren’t covered in your typical Prepper book. Additionally, since our family lives in Mexico, the book includes information about how we personally have prepared (or not) for each disaster along with general survival tips.
What writing goal do you hope to accomplish this year?
I have several books in the Surviving Mexico series to complete this year.
