For Cooper, being a single dad was never part of the plan…
After the devastating loss of his wife, Cooper Matthews has to carry on for the one person who is counting on him to come out the other side—his young daughter. She’s all he needs, or so he thinks, until a chance encounter brings Lexi Beaumont into his life.
Escaping a toxic relationship, Lexi returns to the town where she grew up, eager to start over. Meeting Cooper exposes an undeniable chemistry between the two of them. But his conflicted feelings and the love he still carries for his wife, forces him to push Lexi away, keeping her at arm’s length.
Can two fractured hearts come together as one? Or will the past be too much for either of them to overcome?
My review:
This book has everything! I admit, I rarely cry (at most I’ll get teary and that’s uncommon) at a book or movie, but some parts in the beginning of this book really got to me. It begins with Cooper, who is a deployed Marine. He gets the news that his wife has collapsed and he is rushed back to the States. She doesn’t make it, and he is discharged to take care of their 3 month old baby, Isabella, who he hadn’t even been able to meet before then. Fast forward to 4 years later, and Isabella is a happy, energetic little girl who loves Tangled and swimming, and her Daddy.
Lexi is a friend of Cooper’s sister Madison, although she and her family moved away when Lexi was 14. She moves back to Oceanside after a disaster of a breakup and is crashing on Madison’s couch while searching for a job and a place of her own. Cooper’s housekeeper/nanny is leaving to care for her soon to be born grandchild, and he asks Madison for a referral and she recommends Lexi.
What I liked: Everything. Seriously. Isabella is a total scene stealer. She and Cooper have an amazing relationship. This book has sadness, humor, and drama but none are overwhelming. It’s a good balance.
What I disliked: It ended! Seriously, that’s my only dislike. I was engaged by this book from the first page to the last.
Verdict: Get this book!!
